Within the Interreg France-Wallonie-Vlaanderen project Elast2Sustain, Centexbel, the Belgian technical and scientific research centre for the textile and plastics processing industry, is focusing on the recycling of various TPE waste streams. Their research targets TPO, TPV, TPU and TPS materials.
Our partner Université de Reims Champagne-Ardenne (URCA) successfully shredded these materials into reusable fractions. Through injection molding, this TPE waste was processed into new functional objects used to evaluate the material properties of recycled TPE. The first results are promising: repeated recycling of pure TPE waste streams leads to only minimal quality loss.
In the next stages of the project, Centexbel will investigate how the quality of recycled TPE can be further enhanced by adding specific additives.
